I just stepped off the plane and was warmly welcomed at Vancouver Airport.
I’ve never been here before, so the thrill of new discoveries is always exciting. It feels like a vacation to travel, but I’m here for work.
I’m immediately driven to a conference center, a large building with spacious halls. There, I shake hands with several people and see others bringing in packages from the plane. Inside are my photo prints and materials for setting up the exhibition.
It would have been much easier to tell my story with a slideshow—less to carry around. I’m used to that. But having the physical prints here feels good.
With clammy hands, I later stand in a packed hall, delivering my beloved presentation to a large audience. Afterwards, we toast to the opening and view the images together. It’s wonderful to hear what people say about what they see. Conversations are buzzing, and the message has resonated well.
Thanks, Vancouver, for this great opportunity. Today, I took another step towards creating an emotionally healthier world.
Visualisation
I just took you through one of my visualizations. This is what I hope to experience in my life: speaking passionately about memorial photography, showcasing images, and sharing the impact it can have in places beyond the Netherlands.
If dreams can come true, then this is my first step: starting Farewell Focus.
It took some time to establish Farewell Focus. Now, I invite you to join this unique community.
It’s still in its early stages, and it will grow over time. The fact that it’s not yet complete allows for new things to emerge. Join me on this journey of discovery. It’s possible it won’t always go smoothly, but I’m not afraid to make mistakes.
Join Free community
Would you like to join the journey in this community? It is completely FREE!
Connect with people who want to learn more about Farewell Photography. Whether it’s familiar or new to you, I’d love to introduce you to a world I know well. For over 13 years I’ve been a farewell photographer and for eight years I educated over 200 photographers in my own academy and workshops in the Netherlands.
You can make a valuable contribution if you already have knowledge in this field. It’s also a place where you can learn from others. Think of it as a networking area, where we share a common interest in emotional photography and everything related to funerals, death, photography in times of loss, and grief.
I want to make it as personal as possible. You can attend monthly Zoom meetings in the Free Birds community. Meet others, talk to other photographers, and have the opportunity to exchange ideas.
Learning environment
It’s both thrilling and super fun. I’m obviously very enthusiastic about it. And yes, you’re going to get to know me pretty quickly. Know that you’re in safe hands with me also. I’ve been through tough times, I know what hardship and hassle are, so I avoid them just like you, or face them head-on.
